Gaining AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority) Survey for your domestic commercial vessel involves the following steps:

1. Documentation Preparation and Booking your Survey:

You need to gather all necessary documentation, including ownership details, and any relevant certificates.

When you contact us to book a survey, our operations team will ask you for the vessel name, length of the vessel, hull material, UVI number and vessel location. We will also ask you for your current Certificate of Survey (if applicable) and a copy of your AMSA letter ‘Notification – Survey Activity Codes’. This letter identifies the required surveys you need to book.

With the above information at hand, we will be able to allocate an AMSA-accredited Marine Surveyor to conduct the survey at a mutually convenient time.

2. Vessel Inspection and Compliance Checks:

Our Marine Surveyor will conduct a thorough inspection of your vessel to ensure it meets all safety and compliance standards set by AMSA.

The Marine Surveyor will assess various aspects of your vessel, including its structural integrity, safety equipment, navigation systems, and operational procedures, to ensure compliance with AMSA regulations.

3. Corrective Actions (if any):

If any deficiencies are identified during the inspection, you’ll need to address them to bring your vessel up to compliance. This may involve repairs, upgrades, or modifications as necessary.

Our Marine Surveyor will fill out an AMSA 586 form ‘Survey Activity Report and Temporary Operations’ to inform you of any deficiencies you will need to address before you can receive a Certificate of Survey. This form shows a brief description of each non-conformance and how it can be cleared – either through inspection, proof (photo evidence) or declaration.

4. Survey Report Submission:

Once your vessel passes the inspection, the surveyor will submit a detailed survey report to AMSA on your behalf.

5. Certificate Issuance:

Upon review and approval of the survey report, AMSA will issue the necessary certificates, allowing your vessel to operate commercially within Australian waters.

6. Ongoing Compliance:

It’s important to note that compliance with AMSA regulations is an ongoing owner’s responsibility. You’ll need to adhere to maintenance schedules, safety protocols, and any updates or changes to regulations to ensure continued compliance.
